The report by the national centre for transport and mobility research iMOVE, working with the University of South Australia, predicts a $460 million net boost to the national economy from the emergency services sector alone, with a net productivity increase of 10 per cent, as well as between $1-8 billion if drones are used in early fire detection.
Wing has officially launched a drone delivery service operating from a shopping centre in Ipswich, Queensland. The company – which is owned by Google parent Alphabet – has partnered with DoorDash to drone-deliver food and other essentials from Mirvac’s Orion Springfield Central shopping centre to surrounding communities.
The business’ general manager, Simon Rossi, said the company thinks it could implement the change in Australia by the end of the year, in what would represent a ‘holy grail’ moment for the sector.
Starting on 11 May, the Wintjiri Wiru experience – designed by media architecture studio RAMUS – will use more than 1,000 drones to form images in the night sky of the Mala ancestral story, which sits between Kaltukatjara (Docker River) and Uluru.
The Russian Su-27 can be seen repeatedly flying close and dumping fuel on the drone before colliding with it, briefly taking the camera offline. When the feed returns, one of the drone’s propellers has been visibly damaged.
US Air Force General James B Hecker revealed that before the incident, the Su-27 dumped fuel on and flew in front of the MQ-9 in what he branded a “reckless” manoeuvre.
