Sunshine Coast Airport has opened its new check-in hall as part of major terminal upgrades.
The upgraded check-in area includes 18 automated kiosks, 10 bag drop units, and a dedicated oversized baggage drop, all provided by Elenium Automation. It comes after the airport last week opened its new arrivals area and baggage claim.

“The new check-in hall features self-service technology, enabling passengers to complete key steps of the check-in process, including printing baggage tags and placing luggage onto the automated bag drop system,” said airport CEO Chris Mills.
“With the new technology, the check-in and bag drop process is faster than ever, helping passengers move through the airport more easily.
“We want every part of the passenger journey at Sunshine Coast Airport to be streamlined, and technology has an important role to play in achieving that.
“It’s not just the technology that stands out. The new check-in hall has been designed to create a more modern and welcoming experience. This is a critical step in the upgrade and expansion of the entire airport building.”
According to Sunshine Coast Airport general manager of operations Kate McCreery-Carr, the new technology is “making travel simpler and more efficient”.
“At Sunshine Coast Airport, passengers can use any of our automated bag drops and check-in kiosks, no matter which airline they’re flying with, helping to speed up check-in and create a smoother journey through the airport,” she said.
“Passengers can take greater control of the check-in and bag drop process, while our airline teams can step in and provide assistance whenever it’s required. It’s about making the journey effortless and enjoyable for our passengers through greater choice.
“By integrating the latest check-in and bag drop technology into our brand-new terminal, we’re creating a more streamlined environment that makes it easier for passengers to navigate the process from check-in through to departure.”
Sunshine Coast Airport expects 1.8 million passengers this year and 2.4 million by 2030, with more current capacity in core Sydney and Melbourne markets than any point in its history.
Earlier this year, it opened a new “state-of-the-art” outbound baggage facility featuring several hundred metres of new conveyor belts, alongside Rapiscan CT screening technology, higher throughput, and updated infrastructure to “minimise operational disruptions and downtime”.
The airport was in November approved for a new mixed-use “Gateway Precinct”, including its terminal expansion as well as hotel, retail, and commercial opportunities.
Terminal works are slated to be completed next year.
