The crew of volunteers flew the supplies across the Manning River to Harrington on Friday night, after receiving an urgent request.
The Northrop Grumman-manufactured high altitude, long endurance, remotely piloted aircraft system, labelled online as United States military A57-002 (similar aircraft pictured), arrived at RAAF Base Tindal in the Northern Territory earlier this week.
The agreement strengthens the collaborative efforts of two of the nation’s key defence players in what has been billed as one of Australia’s most significant aviation programs.
The agreement will see SLSNSW and Babcock look into using drones beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) to modernise SLSNSW’s coastal operations and “radically transform the state’s surf lifesaving operations into a broader national asset for disaster prevention, response, and recovery”.
Fury, manufactured by US defence company Anduril, is designed to act as a force multiplier for crewed fighter aircraft.
The company has announced the milestone as it employs around 250 staff in Sydney, including 200 engineers.
