Lawyers for the big four accounting firm, which The Australian reported over the weekend had been called in to examine the airline’s finances, said in a letter seen by The Australian Financial Review that Deloitte would not accept any potential appointment as voluntary administrator.
The woman reportedly collapsed on board VA308 from Brisbane to Melbourne at around 9:30am, with medical experts administering CPR in-flight.
The halt follows a story published in The Australian over the weekend claiming that Rex had called in a “turnaround team” from big four accounting firm Deloitte and that the airline has been having trouble turning a profit in its domestic jet operations.
The low-cost carrier made the decision in May to drop the route, which operates up to four times per week, leaving Cairns–Darwin served only by Airnorth and QantasLink. The move does not appear to have been covered by local media at the time, despite a statement from a Jetstar spokesperson.
Liquidator Ernst & Young (EY) Australia, which was called in after the airline collapsed in May, said domestic flights will be back “in the short term”, with no timing as of yet for the return of international operations.
Flight NZ1995, named for the New Zealand Warriors’ inaugural year, was available as part of a package deal including tickets to four rugby games to be held in Vegas early next year. Tickets went on sale at 11am New Zealand time on Wednesday and were gone just over a quarter of an hour later.
