Airservices Australia has received top honours at this year’s Queensland Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) awards, after completing a major project to enhance communications between aircraft and air traffic controllers. Airservices Australia has commissioned a new $8 million Terminal Area Radar (TAR) at Adelaide Airport, as it replaces radar equipment which has been in operation since 1993. The recent upgrade follows Airservices’ commissioning of a $6 million TAR at Sydney Airport in June, after earlier TAR installations at the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Darwin Airports.

Airservices Australia will begin to replace its ageing en route radars across the east coast, following the signing of a $45 million contract with INDRA Australia. The agreement will see Airservices replace 11 en route radars by 2015, augmenting the satellite based ADS-B network. Several locations across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia
