Qantas Group beat its main domestic rival in on-time departures and arrivals for the second month in a row, with Jetstar also coming out ahead on both metrics – though Virgin still prevailed on cancellations. All three figures for the whole sector were notably worse than long-term averages.

The charter and FIFO carrier saw a statutory net profit after tax of $82.1 million, down 4.9 per cent on its record profit in 2023-24, though revenue from operations was $760.9 million, up 19.4 per cent. The carrier also saw a fifth straight annual record in total flight hours, with 113,621.

In the June meeting minutes, obtained by The Australian under freedom of information laws, Department of Home Affairs assistant secretary (aviation security) Matthew Pedler told airport operators that the alleged incident was the worst since a disrupted Sydney bomb threat in July 2017.

Hundreds of dnata employees at Perth Airport will go on strike, affecting flights to destinations including Singapore, the UAE, South Africa, Vietnam, and New Zealand. According to the TWU, Perth has the lowest paid dnata workers in the country.

The airline has now reached a tentative agreement which will bring its 10,000 flight attendants back to work while negotiations take place “overseen by a mutually agreed-to mediator”, though it has warned that a restoration of full services may take seven to 10 days. It is unknown at this stage when Australian flights will resume.

The Canadian flag carrier, which has been a Virgin partner since 2023, flies daily to Sydney and six times per week to Brisbane from Vancouver, but has seen all flights cancelled since 16 August as cabin crew from the Canadian Union of Public Employees continue industrial action.
