The passion running through the veins of many professional aviators started when they were very young and often through the opportunities provided by caring mentors.
In the case of Nick and Giles, their father, Dr Euan English, a Royal Airforce (RAF) pilot and an acclaimed aeronautical engineer, was to be their lifelong influence. Not only did Euan have a brilliant mind (he graduated with a doctorate from Cambridge), but he was renowned for being able to bridge the barriers between academia and practical application; and was always known to be very good with his hands, particularly with all things mechanical.
