Virgin Australia has announced it will operate ATR 72 turboprop flights between Brisbane and Moranbah from April 2 and Brisbane and Bundaberg from May 4.
To Moranbah, Virgin Australia will initially operate two daily return flights on weekdays, increasing to three daily return flights from April 15, while weekends will see one daily return flight every Sunday.

“Moranbah is situated in the heart of the Bowen Basin and we are pleased to be supporting both the local community and the resources industry by bringing much needed competition to this market,” said Virgin Australia group executive for alliances, network and yield Merren McArthur.
Meanwhile, Virgin will operate a daily flight to Bundaberg, departing Brisbane at 12.40.
“Bundaberg has been a monopoly market for over 10 years and the local community and tourism operators have told us that they would welcome competition in the region,” McArthur said.
In other Queensland news, Virgin Australia has announced it will operate Airbus A330-200s on Brisbane-Perth services from May 15. Two of the airline’s three daily Brisbane-Perth flights will be operated by A330s, with the third flight continuing to be operated by 737s.
