The future has arrived quickly for several South Pacific states committed to integrated ATC systems which utilise satellite-based communications, navigation and surveillance/air traffic management (CNS/ATM) techniques.

Almost 12 months have passed since the certification of the FANS-1 avionics package for Boeing 747-400 aircraft. While some airlines and countries are actively exploiting the cost benefits in the South Pacific, other airlines and regions are not yet in the race.
