Airbus Industrie’s expanded Sydney sales office for Australasia, PNG and the South Pacific is headed up by Philip Pearce, with Peter Bennett who has returned to Airbus’ Australian office after a stint in Toulouse. Former aviation writer for The Australian Chris Falvey has been appointed the chief aviation policy advisor to transport minister John Sharp. Jack Moffat and John Lade have resigned from the FAC. Freedom Air International’s new Brisbane Airport Manager is Ian Smith. John Sheridan is the new manager for Ansett Air Freight in New Zealand, following the resignation of Daniel Clifford from the company. Rob O’Brien has moved from Ansett’s Sales and Marketing Manager NSW to Airport Operations Manager – NSW. Air Commodore Peter Nicholson is the new Air Commander Australia. Australia’s four largest FAC airports, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth each now have their own boards. FAC MD and Chief Executive Barry Murphy is the chairman of all four boards, while FAC Chief Financial Officer Alan Gray is a board member on all four. Other board members are Sydney – Alan Mulgrew (CEO), Greg Robinson, Phillip Cash, David Lamb, and Julieanne Alroe. Melbourne – John Taylor (CEO), Bob Young and Greg Angelo. Brisbane – Phil Walker (CEO), Tim Rothwell, Carn Spencer, Terry Cuttle and Brad Bowes. Perth – Graham Muir (CEO), Wayne Ticehurst and Neville Ivey. Kiwi International’s new Manager NSW is Dennis Smith. VALE – Lyle Copley, who held a number of positions within the Australian aviation industry, including MD of Aviall Australia, passed away in January aged 51.

Bottom Line

Boeing has posted pretax earnings of $US170m ($A215m) and net earnings of$US119m ($A151m) on sales of$US4.3bn ($A5.4bn) for the first quarter of 1996. Comparable figures for the first quarter of 1995 respectively are$US217m, $US181m and$US5.0bn.
