Kiwi’s Big Expansion Plans

Kiwi Travel International Airlines has announced major expansion plans based on the leasing of a 380-seat DC-10. The DC-10 will be the focus of Kiwi’s plans to begin operations out of Christchurch from July to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth, and via Auckland to Perth. In addition, Kiwi has applied to begin services from July from Christchurch to Cairns and Osaka in Japan, using dormant fifth freedom traffic rights out of Australia open to New Zealand airlines. The service to Cairns and Osaka would operate weekly.

To cope with the expansion, Kiwi plans to employ 25 additional reservations staff and 50 flight attendants, to be based in Christchurch. Kiwi’s Australian reservations operations will be centralised in Sydney, where 45 staff will be employed, on top of the 25 staff currently employed in Brisbane. The expansion will see Kiwi’s staff numbers double to 240 people.
