Cape York Air (formerly Cape York Air Services) has sold its BN-2A/3 VH-BSP to Lapthorne Aviation at Tyabb, Victoria, with the Trislander being delivered there in late June. The former Douglas BN-2A/3 P2-DNX has been under rebuild with Cape York Air for some months and on completion was to be registered VH-CYC, however in June it was sold to Murchison Relines of Mt Magnet, Western Australia, as VH-MRJ. Cape York Air returned Cessna 310R VH-TFJ to Weipa Air in April on termination of its lease. Corporate Air has leased its Cessna 404 Titan VH-CSV to the Australian Army and in turn has taken delivery in early June of Titan VH-TTZ from Essendon based Australasian Jet Charter. Flight West Airlines has leased its remaining Dash 8 100 VH-XFU to Ansett New Zealand with the aircraft departing Brisbane for Christchurch in late June. In turn Flight West has wet leased Fokker 50 VH-FNJ from Ansett Australia with that aircraft entering service on June 26. Flight West has based the Fokker 50 in Brisbane from where it operates a daily return service to Cairns via Queensland coastal ports. Flight West put its sixth EMB-120RT Brasilia VH-XFR into service on June 20. Talair DHC-6-300 P2-GVI was taken out of storage at Mareeba in late May and ferried to Brisbane. In early June the Twin Otter, now registered to Flight West as VH-FNT, departed for Katherine where it commenced a three month lease to the RAAF. As of late June former Talair Twin Otters P2-RDV and P2-RDX and Bandeirantes P2-RDN and P2-RDO were parked at the Flight West hangar at Brisbane Airport waiting their turn to join the Flight West fleet. Impulse Airlines’ fourth Beech 1900D N3217L msn UE-149 (which is the prospective VH-IMC) was noted parked at the Wichita/Mid-Continent Airport in Kansas on May 16. By late June however there was still no report of the Beech 1900D being delivered to Australia. Kendell Airlines has ordered a third Saab 340B+ for delivery in October. To be registered VH-EKN, the Saab 340B+ will reportedly replace in service Kendell Airlines leased Saab 340A VH-KDB. Kendell took delivery of its first Saab 340B+ VH-EKG at its Wagga base in late June when the aircraft ferried in from Linkoping. The following week Saab 340B+ VH-EKH was delivered to Kendell. On July 2 Kendell commenced operations between Wagga and Sydney using its new Saab 340B+ aircraft with 27 return services being operated weekly on the route. Kendell also commenced operations on July 30 from Albury to Sydney with 28 return services being operated weekly. King Island Airlines was advertised for sale in the national press in mid June. National Jet Systems took delivery of a second DHC-8-311 on June 15 when C-GFYI msn 401 ferried into its Adelaide base from Singapore and Darwin. Using the callsign ‘DHC401’, the Dash 8 departed Downsview in Canada on June 8 on its ferry flight to Australia. On arrival into Adelaide C-GFYI was noted to be carrying Qantas tail colours, however during its preservice lay-up they were changed to that of National Jet Systems. Later registered VH-NJU the Dash 8 departed Adelaide for Perth on June 24 where it will be based with National Jet. In turn National Jet then moved its Perth based DHC-8-103 VH-NJD to Darwin from where it will be utilised on its newly won BHP Petroleum contract. During June National Jet changed its IATA code from OG to NC. Tamair Metro III VH-NEM returned to Tamworth in mid July on termination of its lease to Asia Pacific Air in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Asia Pacific Air took delivery of Metro 23 9M-BCH msn DC-865 at Kuala Lumpur on June 3 with the aircraft being ferried from San Antonio by Tamair’s Managing Director Paul Bredereck. Metro III N349AE msn AC-616 meanwhile was delivered to Aeromil at its Maroochydore base on June 6. West Coast Airlines are a projected Perth based regional airline intending to operate Saab 340 type equipment in competition with Skywest Airlines.
