Turbo Commander Aileron Tests Dispute Report
Extensive testing in the US on a Turbo Commander twin turboprop has revealed results which contradict National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) concerns that the aircraft is prone to aileron snatch problems. The issue had relevance to Australia because aileron snatch is considered by some to be a possible contributory cause of the controversial crash of the Seaview Air Commander last year.
The aircraft tested in the USA was a Turbo Commander 690A, very similar to the Seaview aircraft, which was a 690B. Aileron snatch is also thought to have been a possible cause of several crashes in the USA, prompting the NTSB to recommend that the Federal Aviation Administration issue an airworthiness directive on the matter. The FAA declined to do so.
