Review of Flying Training Industry to Examine Options for the Future
The Civil Aviation Authority and the Australian Aviation Advisory Committee (Aaac) have recently commenced a joint review of the Australian flying training industry, following identification of a number of issues relating to the industry that warrant examination. The Review Committee is headed up by Frank Young, Managing Director of Navair International Flying College, and has as its members Captain Alan Searle of Qantas, Peter Patroni, President of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, John Willis, Manager/Chief Flying Instructor of the Latrobe Valley Aero Club, and two members of the staff of the Caa’s Directorate of Aviation Safety Regulation, Steve Tizzard and Bob Cook.
Mr Young in a press release announcing the establishment of the Committee, said that its terms of reference were broad and provided for extensive consultation within the flying training industry and related interests. He added that the Review would look at, and make recommendations on, the training standards and prerequisites for the issue of flight instructor ratings, including upgrading and training approvals. The Review Committee will consult with appropriate aviation industry organisations with the aim of ensuring that, wherever possible, the views of the industry are reflected in any recommendations made. The closing date for submissions was set as Friday, March 3 and the Review committee is due to make its recommendations by July 31 this year.
