The RAAF’s Orion fleet is being progressively repainted in this all over grey colour scheme. Each P-3 will be repainted as it comes in for a major overhaul, so repainting will take over four years to complete. Note the black prop tips, which will be a feature of all repainted aircraft. AP-3C Orion Upgrade
Ap-3C Orion
By the end of the decade, the Raaf will arguably have the most capable long-range maritime patrol force anywhere in the world. A new upgrade will significantly boost the Raaf’s maritime patrol capabilities and will extend the Orion’s fleet life to 2015.
The Raaf and E-Systems are about to start work on what is by far the most ambitious and far-reaching modification programme currently planned for the P-3 Orion, which will give Australia the most capable maritime patrol aircraft anywhere in the world. More so than other nations in the world, Australia, as an island continent, is heavily reliant on our sealanes for trade. The vast majority of our trade is transported by ship, and any effective blockade of that transport would have potentially devastating effects on an Australian economy that is increasingly becoming globally orientated.
