Casa Chief To “Restore Confidence”

The incoming chief of the CAA’s Directorate of Aviation Safety Regulation, and then from July 1 the Civil Aviation Safety Agency, Leroy Keith, has pledged that one of his main tasks will be to “help restore confidence in the Authority and aviation safety.”

Mr Keith, speaking at a briefing with specialist aviation media in Canberra, noted the need to restore the DASR/CASA’s faith in itself and that the general public in Australia is now not as confident with flying and aviation safety as “they deserve to be, and that’s the challenge”. Mr Keith’s first priority when he takes up his position is to listen to the industry and those within the CAA to get a true picture of the problems relating to aviation safety. He intends working closely and consulting with those currently in DASR/CAA and for the time being will not make any major changes to top level staffing.
