Regional Airline News

Since completing the Regional Airline Directory which is featured elsewhere in this issue, there have been a number of changes and additions to the Regional Airlines scene which are worthy of mention. Emu Airways purchased Cessna 402B VH-BYN from Air Charter, Adelaide in late August; however, the aircraft was not planned to enter service with Emu until early November. Impulse Airlines’ third Beech 1900D N15527 msn UE-117 was delivered to Brisbane in early November. A fourth Beech 1900D has been ordered for delivery in February 1995. Impulse also took delivery of its first BAe 748-2B G-BCOE at Bankstown on October 8 with the aircraft later being registered VH-IMI. The BAe 748 is planned to enter night freight operations in late December. The second BAe 748-2B for Impulse is now reported to be G-BJTL msn 1790. Peninsula Airlines commenced operations over the former Airlines of Tasmania route from Melbourne/Essendon to Flinders Island in early November. Skywest Airlines has extended its lease on Saab 340B VH-SBA until mid December. Delivery of the next two Fokker 50s VH-FNF and VH-FNG is now planned for December 1994 and February 1995. Southern Australia Airlines will take delivery of its third Dash 8 VH-WZS in January 1995 with the aircraft planned to enter service the following month. VH-WZS msn 5 is a sister ship of Southern Australia’s other Dash 8s VH-WZI and VH-WZJ with it last being operated in airline service by City Express of Toronto as C-GGTO. In June 1991 the prospective VH-WZS was registered to the Westinghouse Trust as N85CL while in October 1993 it was sold to the Instituto Civil Aeronautico of Quito, Ecuador as HC-BSX.
