The RNZAF formed a second strike unit at Ohakea with No 2 Squadron flying eight ex RAN A-4G Skyhawks on December 11. The ex RAN aircraft will undergo modification to achieve commonality with No 75 Squadron’s A-4Ks, also based at Ohakea.

The prototype of the improved F-4EJ Phantom, the 132nd licence built example, was delivered by Mitsubishi to the Air Self-Defence Force’s Air Proving Wing at Gifu on December 12, after completion of manufacturer’s testing. It will undergo 120 flight tests between January and September, and if the tests are successful, it is anticipated that 100 of the ASDF’s current serving 130 F-4EJs will be similarly upgraded.
