Harrier Carrier
… due to its obvious shortcomings in comparison to the Harrier. Still it would only take a few short years to produce the “Super Forger” which will no doubt emerge during the early eighties. At that time the west will be thankful it progressed with Sea Harrier/AVBB development.
Just What the Doctor Ordered
Up until recently the problem of what to do about Naval aviation after the retirement of HMA-S Melbourne in 1985 has indeed been a perplexing one. It is no secret that a nation the size (economically) of Australia could not afford to purchase a viable flat top in the 30,000 tonne class and then stock it with the latest fixed wing combat aircraft. On the other hand a nation with 20,000 kilometres of naked coastline totally sur rounded by major oceans and thousands of miles from our primary alhes desperately needs a deployable seaborne avia tion capability to ensure its lines of trade are maintained.
Fortunately the problem has been solved in one fell swoop that looks tailor made for Australia.
