Firefly and Spitfire

Fairey Firefly VH-HMW, formerly WD828, flew on 28th September following a lengthy restoration at Ballarat, Vic. It was planned to display the former RAN fighter bomber at the Scone Airshow but engine problems en route forced an unscheduled landing in Southern New South Wales. The Firefly is owned by Mike Wansey, best known for his interests in the air charter firm, Rebel Air, and the Confederate Air Force. The aircraft was acquired from the Moorabbin Air Museum.

Spitfire MV239 is at the taxiing stage! The historic fighter, owned by Col Pay of Scone, NSW, was taxied at the recent Scone Airshow behind a non-standard propeller. As ‘Warbirds’ column went to press it was reported that the machine still had work to be completed but that the long-awaited post-rebuild flight was not too distant.
