Melbourne’s new air traffic control tower
The opening of the new Melbourne control tower on March 14 completed Stage One of Airservices’ National Towers Program. Importantly this program also incorporated a ‘game changing’ new control tower technology-termed Integrated Tower Automation Suite (INTAS). This technology consolidates operational information and systems currently provided by numerous computer screens throughout each control tower. Importantly it enables the control tower to be an integrated part of an aviation information management system, linking it with control centres and potentially other users external to Airservices.
