Political constraints are strangling the IS air war
The American-led air campaign against Islamic State over Iraq- Syria began just over a year ago. The RAAF is making a significant contribution, including F/A-18 fighters, a Wedgetail AEW&C, a KC-30 tanker, and support by C-17 and C-130 airlift. Although the campaign has had some success, IS remains strong and still controls large amounts of territory. It is timely to review the coalition’s achievements, and to consider changes to make the operation more effective.
