The holy grail of on-time performance
Aviation, like so many other industries, is living in the age of the measure. Everything must be quantified and that which can’t be, mustn’t be of value, right? I think we all know the answer to that one.
The current epoch of managerial technique is bound to have its day and move on, but for now, everything must be squeezed through the slide rule and under the microscope to see if there is some aspect of efficiency that is being missed. Key performance indicators (KPI), audits and focus groups all seek to dissect the whole into its components. Unfortunately, sometimes the whole has aspects that can’t be quantified – intangibles like goodwill and word of mouth.
