On this week’s Australian Aviation Podcast, Jake and David look at what Ansett Australia left behind, 25 years after the airline went bust – and ask what might have happened if it hadn’t.

In its report into the near collision involving Cessna 172S, VH-KOJ, and Cirrus SR22, VH-XC5, on 22 January, the transport safety watchdog found the Cirrus passed 46 m behind and 99 ft below the Cessna, due to “inadequate spacing” on the part of the faster Cirrus.

Only 1.5 per cent of flights were cancelled across Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin and Rex in each of May, June and July this year, the consumer and competition watchdog said in its latest Domestic Airline Competition in Australia report.

The incident reportedly occurred at Base Darwin late on 14 September around 4:30pm. The break-in also allegedly triggered a lockdown of the base, with Military Police, Australian Federal Police and NT Police all called to respond.

The production jump is reportedly being made in response to LM Skunk Works meeting urgency in the development of survivable, multi-mission, autonomous capability in the US market.

As reported by The Australian Financial Review, the Transport Minister noted the status, which requires 75,000 lifetime Qantas status credits to attain, in her register of interests this week. According to the Minister, she had accrued these credits through flights.
