A pilot has made a miraculous escape from a crashed light aircraft at Adelaide’s Parafield Airport.
The plane, identified as a Cessna 172, sparked a grass fire in the accident at around 12:30pm on Monday 5 December, leading to dramatic photos and video on social media. The pilot escaped uninjured, according to officials.

“It is believed the aircraft landed heavily and caught fire after the impact. The fire spread to nearby grass, however has since been extinguished,” SA Police said in a statement.
“No other aircraft were involved. The pilot, sole occupant of the aircraft, was not injured. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau are investigating.”
A Parafield spokesperson confirmed that the airport is “assisting emergency services including SA Police and MFS following a single aircraft crash at the airport this afternoon”.
“Parafield Airport will also assist the Australian Transport Safety Bureau with any investigations into the incident,” the spokesperson said.
The ATSB says it is gathering information prior to making an investigation decision.
