Bombardier says its Global 5500 and Global 6500 business jets have received their type certificate from Transport Canada.
The certification, announced on September 24 (Canadian time), meant the aircraft remained on track to enter service by the end of calendar 2019.
Further, Bombardier said certification of the two business jets from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was expected to “follow shortly”.

Bombardier Aviation president David Coleal said the two aircraft continued to “surprise and surpass expectations”.
“Not only did we deliver on our commitments but we did on schedule, demonstrating the ingenuity, skill, rigour and consummate professionalism that is inherent to the longstanding winning DNA of our dedicated team members,” Coleal said in a statement.
The Global 5500 and Global 6500 were launched at the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva in May 2018. The pair shares the same fuselages as the current Global 5000 and Global 6000. However, pair offered 500nm and 600nm of additional range, respectively.
The Global 5500 has been designed to fly 5,700nm with a top speed of Mach 0.90. This was 500nm more range compared with the Global 5000. Its cabin had the capacity to seat up to 16 people.
Meanwhile, the Global 6500 has a range of 6,600nm with the same Mach 0.90 top speed and a cabin capacity of up to 17 people, according to the Bombardier Business Aircraft website. This was 600nm more than the Global 6000.
Both aircraft were powered by Rolls-Royce Pearl 15 engines that deliver up to 15,125lb of thrust.
In terms of the cabin layout, the Global 6500 debuted the Nuage chaise, a lounge chair that converted into a flat surface for sleeping or banquet-style dining around the table. The product was exclusive to the new Global aircraft range.
