Jetstar is set to boost capacity on its Newcastle-Hobart route next season.
The seasonal service, which recommences on 27 October and runs three times per week until 24 April 2027, will increase by 6,000 seats to 28,000, up 27 per cent on its inaugural season.

“Due to the popularity of our flights between Hobart and Newcastle last year, we’ve added more than 6,000 new low fares seats between the two cities,” said Jetstar’s executive manager for commercial planning, Scott Zeglin.
“These flights give Hunter residents direct access to Tasmania’s incredible landscapes and experiences, and Tasmanians an affordable connection to the beautiful coastline around Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.
“We thank the Tasmanian Government and Hobart Airport for their continued support in delivering more low fares and greater travel choice.”
Newcastle and the Hunter have a catchment of more than one million people, and according to Hobart Airport CEO Norris Carter, the increase will “further strengthen Tasmania’s connectivity with one of Australia’s largest population centres”.
“Extending this service means even more travellers can fly direct to Hobart without the time and cost of connecting through another city,” he said.
“Adding 6,000 more seats and extending the season by more than a month gives Tasmania’s tourism and hospitality businesses greater opportunity to welcome visitors outside the traditional peak period.
“It will also make travel easier for Tasmanians looking to explore Newcastle and the Hunter region, from stunning beaches and coastal adventures to the wineries and food experiences of the Hunter Valley.”
The Tasmanian Government has also welcomed the increase, with Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Roger Jaensch, saying air access is “vital to growing our visitor economy and ensuring more people can experience everything our State has to offer”.
“The Tasmanian Government is investing in new routes and delivering increased capacity on existing services, making it easier and more attractive for visitors to travel to Tasmania,” he said.
“By increasing services, we’re driving visitation, supporting local jobs and creating more opportunities for Tasmanians.”
Jetstar is also boosting seats on its Hobart-Adelaide route, with two extra flights per week increasing services to six weekly in off-peak and daily in peak periods, bringing in 17,624 additional seats between October and April.
