Fantastic but not infallible
iPads as EFBs
One of the greatest navigation aids that a pilot can have these days is the GNSS or as most pilots know it, the GPS. While a lot of aircraft have panel mounted approved or unapproved GPS navigation systems a lot of pilots rely on use of the iPad or like portable device to assist with their navigation. These portable systems are known as EFBs or Electronic Flight Bags.
The iPad by itself is a great device. It may not have been designed for aviation but with the aviation apps of navigation charts, weather radar and NAIPS it becomes a must-have device for a lot of pilots. Like all man-made devices the ipad is not bullet proof and must be used with common sense and a certain element of care and caution.
