Register Review
It has been a long time since we have seen an imported DH. 82A Tiger Moth join the local register, but now James Mitton has bucked the trend and registered his ex-South African example ZSA.
James’s elderly Tiger Moth was built for the Royal Air Force as DE628 but was redirected to the South African Air Force and re-serialled 4601. It was demobbed during March 1948 and was initially operated by the Flying Springbok Aero Club at Rand as ZS-BYM. After several private owners it was noted being rebuilt by Archie Verway of Kraft Aviation at Rand during 1993, but it seems that the rebuild was not completed and it was stored until exported to Australia during September 2011. Jim Mitton has continued the restoration at Serpentine, WA and the aircraft was noted there during the September 2015 fly-in.
