Down To The Minima
Sydney Airport commissions CAT II ILS
ILS (the instrument landing system) is not a new invention.
In cockpits around the world its cross-hairs have been giving pilots precision vertical and lateral guidance down to the runway’s threshold in poor weather conditions for a good many decades. However, the ongoing pursuit has existed for the ILS to bring aircraft safelydown to a lower height above the ground in the attempt to ‘break visual’ and land. Sydney Airport has now joined the ranks of airports that offer that lower minima and a greater chance of hearing the pilot’s call of “Visual!”.
