RAAF C-17s and C-130s critical to Afghan ‘retrograde’

Nostos is a Greek word meaning ‘homecoming’ and is fittingly being used as the name of the operation to ‘retrograde’ Australian equipment and personnel out of Afghanistan as part of the drawdown of combat forces and the transition to Operation Resolute Support.

The length of the 13-year Afghanistan deployment and the sheer volume of materiel needing to be moved out of theatre and redeployed within the Middle East Area of Operations (MEAO) by both Australian and Coalition partners is daunting.
