Battery-charged trouble
Investigations continue into series of 787 battery-related fires
On January 17 a Boeing 787-8 operated by All Nippon Airlines (ANA) departed Ube bound for Tokyo Haneda with 129 passengers and eight crew onboard, taking off at 0811 for the short one hour twenty minute service.
Around 20 minutes into the flight climbing through 32,000ft 35nm to the west of Tomkatsu Airport, the flight crew detected an acrid odour and began receiving battery fault indications. The crew diverted to Tomkatsu airport landing 14 minutes later, vacated the runway and initiated an emergency evacuation. Passengers and crew observed traces of smoke during the evacuation.
