Air Support
Flying with the LA Police Department’s air wing
Flexing the long arm of the law in the skies over the City of Los Angeles, California, the home to four million law abiding citizens, ‘suspects’ and movie stars, the Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Air Support Division (ASD) is charged with patrolling 21 divisions of LA – an area of around 1200km2.
From the Hooper Memorial Heliport atop the eight story City Technical Building in downtown LA, the ASD provides aerial backup to LAPD ground units with its fleet of 21 AS350B2 A-Stars (A-Star is the US marketing name for the Squirrel) and Bell 206 JetRangers helicopters, plus a sole fixed wing Beechcraft King Air 200 – making it the world’s largest police air wing.
