RAAF command & control system comes out of the dark
After holding a prominent place on former Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon’s list of ‘projects of concerns’, the Project Air 5333 Vigilare program to develop a new integrated air defence command and control (C2) system for the RAAF appears ready to finally emerge from purgatory and be employed as a key ADF capability over the next 12 months.
The ambitious Vigilare program has been in development for nearly a decade, with Boeing Defence Australia being awarded a contract to develop the system in 2004 to deliver a system to the Northern Regional Operations Centre (NORTHROC) at RAAF Base Tindal by 2007.
