Good One Oz!
A decade ago almost to the day, Australians young and old cheered the news that September morning that we had pulled off the seemingly impossible and claimed a trophy at Newport, Rhode Island, that signified much more than a mere victory in just another yacht race.
That exuberance of our America’s Cup win lived with us for many years and helped transform Fremantle from a rundown waterfront ghetto to what is today regarded as a highly desirable area in one of the world’s most pleasant cities. Our most recent achievement in winning the year 2000 Olympics though makes the events of a decade ago pale into insignificance. While of tremendous long term import to all Australians, we who work and live within that wonderful industry called aviation are winners of a very special sort.
