You just know that Strike Commander will be different when you open the box and find the eight 1. 44Mb floppy disks inside. This means that the game will take at least 10Mb from your hard disk. Breathe deeply – the actual figure is 35Mb, which is a new record for computer games based on floppy disks.

The instruction manual is even more interesting, taking the form of a magazine describing and advertising mercenary operations. Some of the advertisements are quite amazing! The scene is set in the year 2011, after the USA has gone the way of the USSR. Mercenary fighter squadrons find a safe haven in Turkey and set up operations there. The free market economy is alive and well though, and these squadrons compete for business on an open market. Each squadron has its own culture and some are more ruthless than others. Of course, we start in a goody goody outfit, but I’m not sure that such morality is a luxury that you can maintain and stay viable.
