RAAF Hit Hard by Increasing Resignations
The RAAF is literally losing its lifeblood. Numbers of staff have fallen to an alarming low and if anything, the exodus appears to be accelerating, despite vigorous recruitment drives.
The outflow of officers, in particular, is causing increasing concern not only within the Air Force, but in the wider defence community. There are now numerous unfilled positions and according to sources, the result is that some personnel are being promoted before they have sufficient experience, simply to fill a hole.
The Shortage of fighter pilots is openly described as critical and the Chief of Defence Forces, General Sir Phillip Bennett, says the rapid deployment capacity is under threat. Defence force statistics tell the story, in which the wastage of personnel through resignation, retirements or other reasons, is constantly higher than the number of new recruits.
