New South Wales Air Services Review Panel Releases Summary Report:
The summary report on air services in NSW has been released and its findings are sure to fire the imagination of both airframe marketers and airlines alike.
Essentially the report broadly recommends the establishment of a policy of hubbing at selected NSW regional centres in an effort to improve frequency of service and reduce movements into Kingsford Smith Airport (KSA). The report considers that in most cases the new generation of 30/36 seat airliners are preferable to the larger Fokker F27s which presently serve the primary routes. These would then collect outlying passengers from smaller towns via 18-seat feeder aircraft. Overall this would obviate the present situation where often rural travellers have to dog leg their way to Sydney via a number of smaller rural communities in the large and expensive to operate F27 aircraft.
