Second Phase of Parliamentary Investigation Into the Dota About to Commence:
The second phase of the investigation into the Department of Aviation by the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Expenditures is about to commence. Phase one, reporting on what is commonly referred as the Darling Harbour Heliport Fiasco, was completed during the latter stages of 1985 and reported in-depth on p. 89 of our of our January issue.
Phase two is expected to convene during and August and will hold public hearings around the major cities of Australia. Hearing dates will be advertised in the press and the second phase will endeavour to examine in detail a dozen or so of the s major problem areas identified in the more than 800 submissions that were lodged with the Committee during 1985. Unfortunately due to the Parliamentary workload, it is unlikely that the results of phase two will be announced in Parliament before early 1987.
