Airbus A350 test aircraft MSN5 will visit Perth, Sydney and Auckland as part of the aircraft’s route proving program, the final phase of the aircraft’s type certification testing.

MSN5, which is configured with a 265-seat passenger interior (42 business class and 223 economy class seats), will be operated by Airbus flightcrews and will conduct four separate trips over three weeks. The third of these flights will see the A350 fly into Sydney from Johannesburg  before continuing to Auckland, while fourth flight will see the A350 fly into Perth from Qatar.

“These route proving tests are designed to demonstrate readiness for airline operations and will include high airfield performance, auto-landing trials, and airport turnaround and handling services,” Airbus said in a statement.

The A350 is scheduled to land in Sydney at about 6.00am on August 5, and continue on to Auckland that afternoon. Airbus says certification is on track for the third quarter of this year with first delivery to launch customer Qatar Airways due by year’s end.

Airbus says the five development A350s have to date flown over 540 flights and 2,250 flight hours.

    Hi Aust Av

Are you able to tell us the date and time that the A350 will arrive in Perth? Will Qatar be substituting the A350 for their normal 77L and arriving and departing at regular scheduled times?

    Thanks

    Mark, Perth

This is what I have managed to find.

The A350 is scheduled to arrive in Perth from Doha at 3pm on 9 August 2014, departing back to Doha on 10 August 2014 at 11pm.

Will be down there for sure!

F-WWYB is one of five test aircraft and one of two (the other is F-WWCF, MSN 002) with a fully functional passenger cabin, containing 42 business class and 223 economy class seats. The A350 will be operated by Airbus flight crews, with European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) pilots aboard as observers.

Launch customer Qatar Airways will take the first delivery, in late 2014. Qatar Airways has ordered the 80 A350s (43 A350-900 and 37 A350-1000), and their CEO, Akbar Al-Baker, has declared that the A350 will be used on Perth services from early-2015.

I saw the A350 arrive in HKG on Monday afternoon. Quite an impressive looking aircraft. It was parked at the end of a tier near gates 1 -4 and CX wing lounge but the area was closed off so could not get any pics to share. Tried again from onboard departing CX flight but it was no good.
