Cebu Pacific will increase its flights to Manila from three to four times weekly in December, using its fleet of A330-900neos.
The former Transport Minister also praised the regional carrier and said it was brave to launch capital city jet services against Qantas and Virgin.
The site will serve both Australia and New Zealand and aims to eventually boost the accuracy of GPS signals to as little as 10 centimetres.
The extra service, which was initially due to launch in November, means the carrier will now fly to the Queensland capital 25 times per week in total.
Speaking on ABC Radio National on Thursday morning, Rod Sims insisted that the Australian aviation market can sustain more competition, but said this is being held back by poor policy settings around slot management at Sydney Airport.
The news comes as three of Australia’s four major gateways – Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane – remain below pre-pandemic levels, while Perth has exceeded them on the back of strong regional passenger figures.
