Shane Carmody has been appointed director of aviation safety at the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) for a five year term. Carmody, who was deputy chief executive of CASA between October 2006 and October 2009, has been acting in the role since October 2016, following previous CASA director of aviation safety and CEO Mark Skidmore’s resignation
Sir Angus Houston will remain as chair of the Airservices board until at least June 2018 after the federal government extended his term by one year. The former Chief of Defence Force and Chief of Air Force was appointed to the Airservices board in December 2011 and was made chairman in June the following year.
Boeing Defence Australia mechanical engineer Karl Domjahn has been named as one of the world’s top 20 young engineers. Domjahn was included in Aviation Week’s 2017 Tomorrow’s Engineering Leaders: The 20 Twenties. The Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester is now considering the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) board’s recommendation for a new chief executive and director of aviation safety. Previous CASA director of aviation safety and CEO Mark Skidmore resigned from the position in August 2016, with Shane Carmody appointed as acting director and CEO in October.
