Having received a request for support from the PNG government, 130 Australian Defence Force members have been deployed as part of Operation Kimba to assist the 2022 PNG national election.
The annual exercise, hosted last month, tested the 16th Aviation Brigade’s foundational training, and comprised of elements from Darwin’s 1st Aviation Regiment and Townsville’s 5th Aviation Regiment.
The aircraft has flown to India for a combined India-Australia maritime surveillance exercise in the Indian Ocean, aiming to strengthen operational maritime domain awareness, enhance anti-submarine warfare manoeuvring, and improve interoperability.

The incident took place over the South China Sea and saw the fighter jet accelerate so close to the Australian aircraft that a “bundle of chaff” was ingested into its engine.
Exercise Toxic Safari 22 was held at Base Amberley and the training included teaching participants how to remove contaminated equipment.
