
The organisers of the event, and its major sponsor The Lottery Office, are now encouraging new teams to get involved in the race, which will take place from August 29 – September 11, 2022.

The GA-8 landed 300 metres further than intended, leading to the aircraft becoming damaged and its landing gear detaching. Neither the pilot nor seven passengers were injured.

Notably, Pipistrel's electric light aircraft, Velis Electro, became the world's first electric aircraft to receive full type-certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency in 2020, and remains the only of its kind to hold this certification.

The renamed Air Race World Championship will arrive on 18, 19 and 20 November 2022 and is expected to attract 150,000 fans to watch it live.

New organisers Touchpoint hope the leg will attract 150,000 people at the location, which has yet to be announced.

Matt Hall Racing has revealed its new livery ahead of the 2022 Air Race World Championship, after deepening its partnership with Bankstown-based training facility Sydney Flight College.
