Flight LA805 from Santiago touched down at 5:20am on Saturday on board the 787-9 Dreamliner CC-BGT (pictured at Melbourne). LATAM will operate three flights per week between Melbourne and Santiago, and is the 36th international carrier to restart flights to Victoria since borders reopened.
The four Striker Volterra 6×6 vehicles are set to arrive in 2025 ahead of the airport opening in 2026, and were selected for what Airservices Australia – which operates Australia’s national Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) service – bills as their advanced safety and eco-friendly capabilities.
In a submission to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Economics’ inquiry into promoting economic dynamism, competition and business formation, the airport urged the Government to lift the current 80-20 “use it or lose it” rule to 95-5.
The minister has expressed concern that Archerfield Airport Corporation’s (AAC) current draft Master Plan – which is intended to replace the existing one from 2017 – has insufficient detail in some areas around environmental impact management, land use, and future development.
Geoff Culbert made the comments as the airport revealed domestic passenger traffic slipped to just 87 per cent of pre-pandemic figures in July.
The sensors, positioned in Keilor, Sunshine and Bulla, complement six existing noise monitors operated by Airservices Australia, and have been set up in response to community feedback during last year’s public exhibition of the new north-south runway project slated to open in 2027.
