The accident at Qantas’ T3 domestic terminal at around 1pm on Saturday saw the woman, believed to be in her forties, rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital after falling around five to six metres, and being attended by first responders on the scene. She remains in an induced coma.
The new Taxiway Foxtrot, billed as Launceston’s “biggest airfield upgrade in more than 60 years”, is slated for completion in late spring ahead of the peak summer freight season. It will be able to accommodate heavier aircraft than current Boeing 737s, including the Airbus A321.
Originally planned to be operational by 2028, timing on the second runway has been pushed out by around 10 years, though the airport says the “introduction of operational innovation” may extend that further.
The airport, New Zealand’s fourth busiest, will extend its terminal north by 800 square metres towards the airfield to provide new office space for Air New Zealand, Planebiz, and the Aviation Security Service, with the NZ$12 million project expected to be completed in 2027.
Opposition transport spokesperson Bridget McKenzie said a Coalition government will implement a two-year trial of cabotage from Darwin if elected, which has been met with scepticism by the airline industry.
The new three-year contract commencing this month includes airside buses not previously provided by SkyBus, as well as new on-board information displays for the buses operating to the airport’s value car parks.
