The Greens are set to introduce a new bill in federal parliament in an attempt to impose a flight curfew and hourly flight caps on Brisbane Airport, following months of community outcry over flight noise.

It comes after Virgin grew its market share on the Perth-Broome route from 34 per cent to over 40 per cent in 2021 alone, and now operates up to three daily return services on the route.

It comes as long-standing AMDA chief executive Ian Honnery announced he will be retiring from the role at the end of March, after holding the title for 46 years, since the Foundation’s inception.

Melbourne Airport has revealed its plans to finally open its third runway by 2027, however has warned that new flight paths will be introduced that could see additional noise pollution over some Melbourne suburbs.
