Speaking exclusively to the Australian Aviation Podcast following the release of his memoir, Joyce apologised for his missteps as head of Qantas, but said he believes the Flying Kangaroo is in a strong position thanks to the decisions he and his leadership team got right.

The Kiwi flag carrier lost NZ$242 million after tax, with a pre-tax loss of NZ$336 million ($278 million), driven by high fuel costs from the Iran conflict, ongoing engine issues, increased aviation system costs, and a “peak aircraft maintenance year”.

Australia’s second largest airline group reported underlying EBIT of $753 million for FY25–26, up 13.4 per cent in 2025, with underlying net profit after tax of $404 million, an increase of 21.9 per cent; statutory NPAT was up a more modest 4.7 per cent to $501 million.

The 6,300 sqm facility, which will train more than 10,000 pilots and cabin crew every year, integrates both widebody and narrowbody training facilities including replica cabins, door trainers, virtual reality equipment, a multi-storey escape slide and rafts, and classrooms.
