The Flying Kangaroo saw 85.8 per cent on-time arrivals and departures in April across all QF domestic services, according to the latest BITRE data, with 2.2 per cent of flights cancelled. It comes as the airline was named OAG’s second most punctual major airline in the world last month.
In an unexpected turnaround, Lim – who, along with three fellow former Rex directors, had denied ASIC’s claims surrounding a statement released to the ASX in February 2023 – gave up the fight on Wednesday and agreed to accept penalties.
The company announced this week that it had entered into a conditional Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) for Airwork, which entered receivership in July 2025.
The Kiwi carrier will fly Perth-Christchurch three times per week from 30 November 2026 to 7 May 2027 using newly retrofitted 787-9 Dreamliners, adding up to 37,000 seats. It comes as more of the Air New Zealand 787 fleet returns from maintenance, and new aircraft are delivered.
The Flying Kangaroo will operate daily flights on the route between 25 October 2026 and the April school holidays, before dropping to four weekly flights until the end of August 2027, adding a total of 40,000 seats.
In its case against Lim and three other former Rex directors, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) said Lim had approved a market update in February 2023 saying Rex was “optimistic” about a full-year profit despite knowing the airline was on track for a loss.
