According to new BITRE data released by the department of transport, the 'best discount' airfare index hit 107 points last month, despite being at just 48 in April this year.
The Australian Services Union (ASU), Transport Workers Union (TWU) and Flight Attendants Association of Australia (FAAA) added the rise is “negligible”, and its members are “severely fatigued”.
While the numbers have yet to be publicly verified by the department of transport, it would prove a remarkable turnaround after slumping to just 45 per cent in July.
The result comes despite the wider group recording an underlying loss before tax of $1.86 billion in its last full-year results and claiming the pandemic cost its airlines $7 billion in total.
Video footage showed two men exchanging punches before multiple nearby passengers tried to pull them apart. Others are seen attempting to distance themselves from the scene.
National secretary Teri O’Toole said her members were being offered “dramatically cut conditions” that would “significantly cut their fatigue management”.
